While the French Quarter reflects an urban Continental appearance, the Garden District is reflects the Jeffersonian ideals of rural and suburban living.  Developed from subdivided plantations during the golden years of ante-bellum New Orleans, the Garden District thrived after the Civil War and continues today as a remarkable collection of architecturally significant residences in a stunning streetscape.

The Lower Garden District has the largest collection of Greek Revival residences in America. Anchored by Coliseum Square park and Barthelme Lafon’s classical urban plan, this unique neighborhood is also home to a fine collection of masonry commercial buildings along Magazine Street, as well as the majestic brick churches of the Redemptorist Fathers. Beautifully restored homes set in an artful and classical urban design make this a memorable experience in an off-the-tourist beat location, close to downtown and easily accessed from the St.Charles streetcar.
